신화적 풍경
누구나 살아가면서 어떤 특정한 풍경과 마주하게 되었을 때 마치 자신이 현실세계를 넘어선 피안의 세계에 들어와 있는 것 같은 느낌을 받는 순간이 있다.
나는 햇살 좋은 날, 영겁의 세월을 고스란히 간직한 듯한 광활한 갯벌이나 해뜨기 직전의 안개 자욱한 호수 같은 풍경을 대할 때면 하늘에서 신령스런 알이 내려와 그 속에서 영웅이 탄생할 것 같기도 하고, 안개 낀 저 호수 너머로부터 영웅의 배필이 될 신비한 여인이 걸어 나오는 모습을 상상 해보곤 한다.
나의 작업은 단순히 이렇게 내가 바라본 특정한 모습의 풍경을 그대로 재현하기 보다는 이 풍경을 매개로 특정 장소나 사물에 대한 정신적이고 영적인 느낌이나 상상들을 표현하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 풍경 속에 약간의 소품이나 인물을 배치하고 연출함으로써 우리의 정신 내부에 존재하는 정신적 흔적으로써의 ‘신화적 풍경’을 사진이라는 매체를 통해 표현해보고 싶었다.
모든 신화는 우리가 바라보고 경험하는 이 세상과 더불어 존재한다고 생각하는 또다른 세상에 대해 이야기한다. 우리 눈에 보이지는 않지만 더욱 강력한 실재, 신들의 세계라고 불리기도 하는 이 실재에 대한 믿음이 이번 작업 ‘신화적 풍경’의 근본적인 주제이다.

Mythic Scape
There are times in lives you encounter the scenery that makes you feel like you are in realm of nirvana beyond reality.
When I encounter infinite coastline or a misty lake before the sunrise, I feel like a holy egg will come out of nowhere and a hero will hatch from it. I also imagine a mysterious women who is destined to be the one for the hero coming from the misty lake.
I tried to depict emotions and spiritual imaginations that the sceneries inspired rather than recreating the scenery itself. I placed a few objects or a person to express mythical sceneries existing in us as traces of our inner world.
Every myth talks about another world that, we believe, co-exists with the real world we look at and live in. The other world has powerful presence that we cannot see. We call it the heavenly realm of gods. The faith in this presence is basically the theme of the series, "The Mythic Scape"
